Railway

The railway industry refers to all activities related to the design, manufacturing, maintenance and operation of railway systems, such as trains, railway tracks, and related infrastructure. The need to optimize operational efficiency while ensuring safety and reliability is at the heart of this industry’s concerns. An essential component of this optimization lies in the adoption of modular solutions to meet the challenges of the railway industry.

Modular solutions for the railway industry

Modular solutions in the railway industry refer to the implementation of flexible and adaptable systems that allow different processes to be efficiently managed, from manufacturing to maintenance, including supply chain management. Elcom, as a company specializing in the design of industrial conveyors, plays a crucial role in this dynamic.

Elcom focuses on the design of modular industrial conveyors for the railway industry. These modular conveyors offer exceptional flexibility in terms of transportation, handling and distribution of railway components. Thanks to these solutions, companies in the railway sector can optimize their internal logistics flows, improve the precision of train assembly, and reduce operational costs.

These modular conveyors from Elcom also enable efficient management of spare parts and critical components, ensuring increased train availability and reduced unplanned downtime. In addition, they easily adapt to the specific needs of each railway company, thus offering maximum customization.

Case study

Project

Our client, a pioneer in the railway market, wanted a supply line for European pallets allowing the delivery of spare parts (heavy loads) for the maintenance of train brakes.

As regular maintenance of train brakes is crucial to guaranteeing the safety of passengers and staff, it was necessary to look into the rapid and efficient supply of spare parts. The constraint was the weight and size of the parts, so it was essential to optimize the supply line. The line allowed empty pallets to be returned on a section.

Solution

For this project and the request of our client, we therefore produced heavy-duty motorized roller conveyors with automation associated with the conveyors so that spare parts can be transported quickly and efficiently to the train brake maintenance areas. This solution allowed us to meet the challenge posed by the weight and size of the parts, while optimizing the supply line.

Which equipment is used in the railway sector?

In the railway industry, a wide range of conveyors are used to meet the needs of each project to be carried out.

  • Powered Roller Conveyors: Powered roller conveyors are essential for moving pallets loaded with spare parts. They enable smooth and efficient transportation of heavy loads throughout the supply line. Thanks to their motorization, they can be controlled and synchronized to guarantee continuous flow.

  • Chain conveyors: Chain conveyors are robust and suitable for transporting heavy loads. They can be used to handle empty pallets as they are returned to a section of the line. These conveyors ensure stable and secure movement of empty pallets.

  • Automated control system: To ensure efficiency and synchronization of the entire process, an automated control system can be used. It makes it possible to supervise transport operations, optimize loading and unloading times, and minimize the risk of errors.

  • Sorting system: In case different spare parts need to be transported to different destination points, an automated sorting system can be integrated to direct each pallet to the correct destination based on its contents.

By using a combination of this equipment, the supply line can be optimized to meet specific project requirements, including weight and size of individual parts. This helps ensure efficient maintenance of train brakes while ensuring the safety of passengers and staff, which is essential in the rail industry.
