Workpiece pallet transfer

The transfer systems are distinguished by their conveying technology using part-carrying pallets for the transport and provision of parts to the different workstations.

At elcom, parts are transported and organized using transport modules based on conveyor sections. Workpiece pallets are routed to their desired destination using standard curves or redirection systems, standardized returns and elevators. These movements are controlled by stops (for manual stations, for example) and guiding devices or positioning mechanisms (for robotic stations, for example). Standard modules are offered for each specific stage of the production process, such as press indexing, elevator modules, turning modules, as well as solutions for cycle time-independent workstations or for evacuation of non-compliant parts.

By associating the guide elements with the branches, and by including the retractable pins under the workpiece pallet, we ensure secure guidance of the pallets. In this way, the workpiece pallets move smoothly, optimizing energy use and reducing dependence on the number of motors.

Workpiece pallet transfers

With elcom, the workpieces are transported and organized using transport units based on double belt conveyors. The desired material flow is created together with standardized cams, curves, swiveling modules or lifting boxes. The material is supplied and positioned primarily with stopper elements (e.g., stopping points for accumulation mode in front of workstations) and positioning units for direct processing (e.g., robotic loading or unloading and manual workstations).

In addition, standard modules for particular process steps are provided, such as press positioning units, lift modules and swiveling or solutions for time cycle independent workstations or for discharging Not-OK parts.

In combination with ramps, guide elements and cams, the retractable pins on the bottom of the workpiece carriers allow for secure guidance of the individual workpiece carriers. The fact that the workpiece carriers in the elcom system move in a flowing motion ensures optimal energy usage and allows the number of motors to be minimized correspondingly.

By doing without a workpiece carrier’s guide on the upper side such as almost all systems on the market use, elcom has a great freedom to make the workpiece carriers exactly as long as necessary if no standard systems are available with the necessary dimensions for the individual case. Since the width distance between the retractable pins on the bottom does not vary within a system, the “track width” is maintained

Different directions

Workpiece pallets can be configured for specific product orientations. The configurations of the U and M workpiece pallets only concern the TLM 2000

  • U workpiece carrier – for one possible orientation of the product :

    The standard workpiece carrier is designed in such a way that the orientation of the product on a workpiece carrier placed correctly on the transfer system cannot change with respect to the direction of motion.
    An extended stopper latches into the U-shaped groove on the bottom of the pallet and prevents the workpiece carrier from moving further.
    Whatever faces forwards in the direction of flow remains facing forwards. Therefore, the workpiece carrier comes standard with two detection bars, one on the right and one on the left with respect to the main direction of motion.

  • M workpiece carrier – for different orientations of the product :

    If workpieces and their workpiece carriers need to be rotated with respect to the direction of motion of the transfer line, an M workpiece carrier can be used. This allows rotations of 90°, 180° or 270° using one or more rotation devices without the need to lift the workpiece carrier out.
    The M-type workpiece carriers are square and equipped with a switching lug and have a cross-shaped groove on the bottom.

These different workpiece pallet configurations provide additional flexibility to adapt to the specific needs of manufacturing processes. Whether for parts of variable size or for transfers requiring rotations, the U and M part-carrying pallets make it possible to optimize transfer operations and guarantee precise positioning of parts on the conveyor.

Examples of requirements

When customers have specific requirements for their production processes, elcom offers tailor-made solutions using workpiece pallet conveyors. Here are some examples of customer requirements and corresponding solutions:

  1. Two identical workstations for reasons of cycle time: In this case, workpiece pallets can be diverted on a parallel line thanks to a bypass and a double cam. This helps optimize cycle time by allowing both workstations to perform production simultaneously.
  2. Access to workstations: To facilitate access to workstations, elcom offers solutions with 2 elevators supplying an elevated section. This allows operators to easily access parts and perform necessary operations.
  3. Evacuation of non-compliant parts to a repair station: When it is necessary to evacuate non-compliant parts to a repair station, elcom offers a solution for evacuating the main line using a parallel line and of a 180° return. This allows defective parts to be separated from the main flow and routed to the specified repair station.
  4. Positioning of parts for processing: Elcom’s workpiece pallet conveyors incorporate indexing for precise positioning of parts when specific processing is necessary. This helps ensure that each part is correctly positioned for the required processing.
  5. 360° access to parts in a particular position: For situations where 360° access to parts in a particular position is required, elcom offers solutions with turnarounds. These flips allow operators to have full visibility and access to parts, facilitating processing or inspection operations.
