Context and challenges

Project objective

A production site operating in the cosmetics and leather goods sector was facing the gradual obsolescence of its workstations. The existing equipment showed signs of wear, was partially faulty and no longer met expectations in terms of ergonomics, functionality and image.

The main objective was to replace these workstations without interrupting industrial activity, while complying with a controlled budget framework. The site was looking for a custom solution capable of improving operator working conditions and aligning with the aesthetic standards of the sector.

Key challenges and constraints

Several constraints structured the project. The new workstations therefore had to integrate into the existing environment, reuse as many still-functional components as possible, and offer a high level of perceived quality. The challenge was also economic: avoiding the purchase of new workstations while guaranteeing durability, industrial safety and operational performance.

Finally, the project required a strong level of customization, particularly in terms of finishes, accessories and ergonomics, in order to meet the specific uses of operators.

What is a refurbished workstation?

Refurbishing industrial workstations consists of reusing an existing base while modernizing it technically and functionally. This approach makes it possible to extend the service life of equipment, reduce environmental impact and lower costs, without compromising on quality.

In this project, Elcom therefore designed ergonomic, robust and customized refurbished workstations, incorporating new or replaced technical components where necessary. This solution fully fits into a logic of integration with existing installations, while improving overall industrial performance.

Solution implemented

Elcom was asked to replace several workstations that had become unsuitable. After analyzing the existing equipment, the teams proposed a comprehensive refurbishment solution meeting the site’s functional and aesthetic requirements.

In practical terms, the delivered workstations are composed of hydraulic columns, with replacement of faulty components, and integrate numerous accessories: roll holders, screen and scissor supports, segmented document bins, roller supports for tape dispensers, removable plates designed to accommodate electronic systems, as well as additional shelves.

Elcom selected laminated worktops with a wood finish, in line with the site’s expectations in terms of image and perceived quality. Some workstations are also equipped with an integrated access hatch in the worktop, facilitating cable routing and improving day-to-day usability.

In total, Elcom’s teams refurbished and decontaminated approximately 80 workstations, including 62 pack stations and 18 reverse stations.

The workstation dimensions are adapted to production constraints:

  • Length: 1,750 mm
  • Depth: 770 mm
  • Minimum height: 792 mm
  • Maximum height: 1 192 mm

Finally, the project was carried out between October and November 2025, with an assembly time of three weeks.

Technology and expertise

Industrial ergonomics

Ergonomics was placed at the heart of the project. The hydraulic columns allow precise height adjustment, promoting operator comfort and the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders. Accessories are positioned to optimize movements and reduce unnecessary travel.

Controlled refurbishment

Elcom’s expertise in industrial refurbishment makes it possible to select, decontaminate and upgrade existing components. This approach ensures reliability, safety and long service life, while limiting costs and environmental impact.

Project support

Elcom’s teams proposed a refurbishment solution offering an optimal economic balance. The project was carried out end to end: design, validation, manufacturing and installation, using a structured methodology integrating pre-assembly and quality validation.

Results and benefits

Key benefits

On-site impacts

Thanks to this solution, the production site now benefits from modern, functional and durable workstations. Operators work in a more comfortable and better-organized environment, promoting productivity and operational quality. Refurbishment also made it possible to comply with budget constraints while promoting a responsible approach.

Focus: refurbishment and circular economy

This project perfectly illustrates the value of refurbishment in industry. By extending the service life of existing workstations, it is possible to reduce industrial waste, limit the consumption of new raw materials and adopt a circular economy approach.

For demanding industrial environments, this approach represents a credible and efficient alternative to heavy investments, while maintaining a high level of quality and safety.
